Gerard and Mikey Way (My Chemical Romance) discuss working with The Aquabats

Image
[I originally posted this on AltPress.com, December 4 @ 10:30 a.m. EST] My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way and bassist Mikey Way appear on today's installment of Kevin Smith's Smodcast . In the midst of the 2-hour episode, the Way brothers reveal details of their working on a new episode of The Aquabats Super Show . Co-written by Gerard, the Aquabats Super Show episode titled "Anti-Bats Are Go" is described as "the Superman II version of The Aquabats." It features a thrashcore band called Asthma, and Mikey Way makes his acting debut playing the singer. Last month, Gerard tweeted about co-directing a television show, presumably the aforementioned one: On my way to Salt Lake to co-direct my first episode of TV! — gerardway (@gerardway) November 14, 2012 The brothers also discuss the challenges of writing music after being on the road for an extended period of time and how that translated to 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives Of The F

Where Are You, DESTROYA?!

@ jessenothing I don't need you to do anything besides eat a bag of shit and sharp glass. As to my absence- I was busy, obviously — gerardway (@gerardway) September 20, 2010 Okay, so that tweet doesn't wholly apply because I don't have violent rage toward you guys, but any remote chance to quote a Gerard tweet must be taken. That's my policy. It has probably become glaringly obvious that I haven't been updating here with reasonable frequency lately, and I just wanted to drop in to give a bit of an explanation. In the middle of October, I began working at Alternative Press as the web content administrator. What that means is that, while AP search for their new web editor, I oversee a massive chunk of  the AltPress.com goings-on as well as the magazine's online presence elsewhere during the work week. That's pretty rad considering it's basically my dream job. I feel very grateful and just mind-blown to be able to work at my favorite maga

The live album was recorded while the band were on My Chemical Romance 's 2011 World Contamination Tour. So, fittingly, My Chemical Romance guitarist Ray Toro lends a hand on the album, both on the production side--the album is mixed by him--and with the music, as his guitarmanship makes an appearance. Toro also mixed My Chemical Romance

Gerard Way, Shaun Simon and Becky Cloonan reveal Killjoys details at New York Comic Con

Image
UPDATE: October 13, 2012 @ 7:08 p.m. Though we were once told that Killjoys began as a project stemming from authors Shaun Simon and Gerard Way "growing up being in the van," much has changed since its inception. A far cry from the '90s-inspired, American comic-book feel they had originally intended , the Killjoys of now, according to Gerard Way, Shaun Simon and Becky Cloonan in an interview with Newsarama that was streamed live, is more inspired by the Killjoys world MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE created with their videos for Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys . ("...the comic informed the album, and then the album refined the idea and what the comic would become." - Gerard Way) According to Way, it is "basically the 3rd" Killjoys video they would have made had they not run out of money, and it's an "expansion on the record." When Way received a sketch from Cloonan of "The Girl" in the Danger Days videos, g

Live Review: Taking Back Sunday's TAYF10 Tour / October 4 and 6 / Cleveland and Chicago

Before you read any further, if you plan to attend TAKING BACK SUNDAY 's TAYF10 ( Tell All Your Friends ' 10th anniversary) tour and do not want to see spoilers, TURN BACK NOW! This review is for the first 2 dates, and there will be spoilers! October 4, 2012 - Cleveland, OH - House Of Blues October 6, 2012 - Chicago, IL - The Riviera Theater --- This has been the year of TBS birthday shows for my best friend Emily and I. At the end of February, 2 days prior to my birthday, we had managed to weasel our way into a show meant for Ohio State students only (Ha! Suckahss!), and the band managed to play 2 days after Emily's birthday at the House Of Blues in Cleveland a few days ago. Pretty cool coincidence, right? What better way to spend my best friend's birthweekend than following her favorite band on the first couple dates of their tour? Before I get into the details of how shows are going down on TAYF10, I just want to gush briefly about the amazing peop

My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero describes 5th MCR album as "bleak" and "elaborate"

Image
In a new interview with Alternative Press , guitarist FRANK IERO revealed that MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE 's still-in-progress 5th album is turning out "fucking elaborate " and says, "There’s a bit of bleakness to it..." He also makes it clear that the album "isn’t going to sound anything like" his recent contribution to the Frankenweenie: Unleashed! soundtrack; though, that song was the first piece of music recorded in the band's new studio ! In the new interview by (one of my favorite humans in the world) Jason Pettigrew, Iero reveals how he got involved with the Frankenweenie: Unleashed! soundtrack and the inspiration behind "This Song Is A Curse," effectively puts LeATHERMOUTH to rest and semi-reveals what he may be up to at North End Studio these days: "Last week, I was in a studio in New Jersey that’s owned by a friend of mine. I just went over to hang out, but we ended up having a couple of beers and doing a song. It

My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero reveals 'Conventional Weapons' project

Image
UPDATE: September 14, 2012 @ 12:00 p.m. EST   The info in my original post (below) was posted a BIT early; so, I had removed it...until now. My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has posted an official blog entry explaining the band's upcoming Conventional Weapons project and the story behind the band's Pre- Danger Days "scrapped" album .  The project will include a series of releases, I'm assuming at least in part on 7" vinyl by the store listing from yesterday (below), of never-before-heard MCR songs from the band's 2008-2009 "scrapped album." There will be 5 releases, starting in October, each with 2 never-before-heard songs. Iero said of the project: "Recently we had a band meeting, we ended up talking about the past, and together we listened to those songs we created almost 4 years ago. We discussed the the way those songs made us feel, how they led us to where we are now and what the fate of those songs should be. H

August 8, 2012: My Chemical Romance Tidbits

Between my digging up arrest reports and generally writing news for Alternative Press today, I noticed quite a few My Chemical Romance happenings. Because of MCRupdate's the recent announcement that she would no longer be updating, I figured I would try to post a little more more here to attempt to make up for the loss. Of course, I'll never be able to keep up at the magnitude she did, but little things that I would normally just tweet then move on, I'll try to compile into an occasional digest so they'll be less likely to be missed. August 8, 2012 Bullet Cable posted a second video interview from MCR guitar tech "Punk Rock Dave" talking about equipment. The awesome thing about this video: It was shot inside what Bullet Cable calls "MCR's secret studio," supposedly that studio the band mentioned they were building in Los Angeles many months ago. Watch the new interview below and the first in the series here . You can see

Thank You, MCRupdates

Last night, Taylor from the amazing My Chemical Romance fansite MCR Updates announced that she will no longer continue to run the website. It's no secret that the fan community owes a lot to the site she maintained so passionately and tirelessly for the past couple years. MCR Updates was always fast, accurate, to-the-point and supplied information that squashed rumors and enhanced the knowledge of the fanbase. During my last couple years of college, I had to kind of fall back from tirelessly hunting MCR news, and MCR Updates was always there to help me fill in the gaps. So, this is a thank you to Taylor for all of her hard work, and for all of the times she helped me gather content to post here. This blog also owes a lot to MCR Updates. She created something so special and covered the MCR world we all so care about in such a way that future fans will be able to look back and have an accurate timeline of exactly what was going on with the band during the time she ran t

FALSE Rumor: My Chemical Romance to play México's ONE Festival?

Image
UPDATE! According to Windish Agency , the source from which the rumor seemed to have originated, "MCR will not be playing this fest." RUMOR SMASHED! CASE CLOSED. NO FESTIVAL APPEARANCE. ORIGINAL POST: According to an article on lifeboxset , My Chemical Romance are set to play México's One Music & Arts Festival on November 10, 2012. However, the source site from which the article appears to have a screen-grab (pictured) has since removed all artist names from the festival line-up (if they were ever there to start. We must be skeptical, MCRmy.) According to fan sources , the One Festival  account tweeted that MCR would be playing the fest then promptly deleted. A search for a screen cap of that is in-progress. I will keep an eye on this and follow up if official or more reliable sources post; however, for now, I'm calling it a rumor and saying don't hurt yourself by getting your hopes up. XoXo c.
