An open letter to my friends: My Chemical Romance

Image
An open letter to my friends: I know a lot of you don’t understand how I can love a band this much. I know many of you think that it’s funny because of how often and blatantly I express it, or you think that it’s something silly I waste my time on. I’m a “walking billboard,” I’ve been told because I wear something MCR-related every day. That’s what you see on the outside. In a way, it is funny, but - on the other hand - it’s nothing close to a joke to me. Those clothes on the outside are like armor, badges I wear in honor of something that has helped me infinitely. The truth is, this is what gives me the will to get out of bed every day. This is the reason I lived past the age of 14. My Chemical Romance inspires me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. to better myself, to try to better the lives of others and reminds me that I should never settle for anything I’m less than passionate about. My Chemical Romance gave me the power to change my life and inspired me to make something of myself. Lis...

Music Saves Lives (The Point of it All) [Part Two]

I was browsing blogs earlier today when I came across an entry entitled MCR=LOVE written by a user named Roslyn . In it, she highlighted a few stories from the website I had mentioned in my first "Music Saves Lives (The Point of it All)" post, thankyoumcr.com She also had embedded this video, which I had never seen before. If you want to know why I am "obsessed" with My Chemical Romance, this video explains it precisely: This past month as been a very hard one for me emotionally, and sometimes I need a reminder that I am not alone in what I face; My Chemical Romance has always been there to show me exactly that. I think that's a pretty positive thing to "obsess" over, don't you? "...you get despressed; you get really desperate; you get really hurt; you feel like an outsider, and one of the only places- maybe- you feel like you can fit in is right here at this show." XoXo c.

Music Saves Lives (The Point of it All)

"At their very beginnings, some lives are destined to be saved, or else they will be cut tragically short." This was the first line of a paper I wrote last year about a meaningful experience in my life. I've come to find since writing that paper that there was never one experience that changed my life but several that saved my life: several nights of falling into the comfort of notes of songs, immersing myself in lyrics, and surrounding myself with the love that resonated through my empty room from my speakers. If you never read another of my posts, please take the time to read this one. I have told this story and will tell it again and again through my career. I want to be a writer, because I want to help people. I want to make people feel that they belong, that someone out there cares about them, and that they can make it through whatever this world may shoot at them alive-- The world can fire, but one can evade the shots. I feel as if it is my duty to c...
