Sad Alien

Image
It’s been more than a year since my last entry, which I would say is inexcusable, but truthfully I have a plethora of reasons for the lack of updates. It would be impossible to maintain this blog with the fervor and time-commitment I had in 2010, and the sadness I feel admitting that is immeasurable. Sometimes the best way to describe a feeling is to give an instance of it, so I will start with this morning. Gerard Way announced that his debut solo album will be here in just a couple months! September 30! He released the tracklisting, with some of the songs we know and love, and a couple whose demos I have been cherishing for a while now. It’s all so exciting. Or it should be, and it would be normally…. But I have a new feeling when I post news about the guys’ continued art these days. It’s sadness. No, I’m not sad that it isn’t My Chemical Romance. I’m not sad to see the guys go their separate ways and pursue new things. I’m thrilled to see what they do, in fac...

My Chemical Romance Digest: September 25-October 8

Image
Here's an outline of what's been going on in the My Chemical Romance world since my previous "MCR digest" post on September 23. Note: I'm going to try to start making these posts a bit closer together. Say, every 5 days? ---   September 28 GERARD WAY performed with GRANT MORRISON and JAMES DEWEES on the opening night of Morrisoncon in Las Vegas, then spoke on a music panel the next day. From fan accounts, I gather that the 'con was very intimate, Gerard was extremely friendly and it was an all-around awesome time. Check out videos below of the performance and part of Gerard's panel. Thanks to Paloma Perez, the lovely lady I interviewed for my review of MCR's Chicago show in December, 2010! See more at Paloma's Youtube channel ! October 1 MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE 's FRANK IERO describes new MCR album as "bleak" and "elaborate" -- He also talked about his Phant-o-matic guitar and the MCR songwriting...

Gerard Way discusses My Chemical Romance’s 5th album on “Spoilers” with Kevin Smith

Image
Note: I originally posted this on AltPress.com . Gerard Way discussed My Chemical Romance's upcoming 5th album on today's episode of " Spoilers ," hosted by Kevin Smith. He said MCR 5 , as he is calling it while it is in-progress, is "going rather quickly" and that the album is "very dark so far." The album, Way hints, will also include  the band's wearing costumes. He told Kevin Smith he's meeting with Colleen Atwood, who has designed the band's costumes since The Black Parade , soon to work out the costumes to accompany the next album. Gerard also played "Small Petunia Of The Galaxy," a song he wrote for his daughter, from his iPhone during the interview. XoXo c. Deadmau5 collaborates with Gerard Way on "Professional Griefers" ?

Image
I was informed earlier this week by the lovely MCRupdates that rumors were rampant online about a Deadmau5 collaboration with My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way. Though Deadmau5 first gave a preview of the song in December, it was following a recent livestream during which the popular electronic artist worked on the vocals for his track "Professional Griefers" that fans began to speculate. To any My Chemical Romance fan, the sound of that voice is unmistakable. However, details of the collaboration are sparse and nothing has been officially announced. Deadmau5, who all-but-confirmed that it is Gerard in this tweet says that he's not upset people found out about the collaboration, but is "pissed about the quality of a rip." If you don't mind bad quality and can't wait to hear this possible collaboration for yourself, listen to the video* of "Professional Griefers" with vocals below: Thanks, MCRupdates, for keeping me up-to-...

Photograph of Gerard and Mikey Way to be featured in traveling art show to raise Parkinson's Disease funds and awareness

Image
When photographer Allan Amato posted , "Just wrapped a lovely shoot experience with My Chemical Romance in old man pajamas..." MCR fans were--to say the least--intrigued. It has now been revealed that said shoot was for the benefit of the organization Illuminate Parkinsons , which aims to raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease and funds for charities. The photograph (above) of Gerard Way and Mikey Way is one of many by Amato that will be featured in a traveling Illuminate Parkinsons gallery show to raise awareness for Young Onset Parkinsons. Prints of the photo will also be sold to benefit the cause. Check out Illuminate Parkinson's Kickstarter page to contribute! XoXo c. Below are two other photographs of Gerard and Mikey by Allan Amato:

My Chemical Romance Vocalist Gerard Way to contribute to Art Show Honoring Metallica

Image
UPDATE: January 21 @ 12:39 p.m. EST Pictured left is Gerard Way's installation piece for the gallery. Thanks to themaskedman on Tumblr for sharing. Apparently, the individual landmines (60 in total) are being sold for $100 a piece. UPDATE: January 20, 2012 @ 12:39 p.m. EST Gerard Way told Alternative Press in a recent interview that the piece he is contributing to the show is an art installation based on Metallica's "One," in the form of a fabricated pile of "quiet"-looking "destroyed, fragmented landmines." Thank you to Brittany for bringing this to my attention! Exhibit A Gallery announced that Gerard Way will be among the nearly 40 artists contributing to their "Obey Your Master: A Visual Tribute to Metallica" exhibit. Of contributing to the exhibit, Gerard said , “Having been a fan of Metallica for years, their music has always inspired my artistic expression in various mediums.. So, when I was asked to be one of th...

My Chemical Romance News While I was Away

Image
As some of you know, I have been stuck in an abysmal state of Internet-less-ness since late November. As such, I have not been able to update as frequently as I would like. Those of you who follow me (@PoisonAndFire) on Twitter probably already saw these as they came out (thank goodness for my mobile Internet access, even if limited!), but here is a re-cap of what has happened in the MCR news realm while I have been on winter break. November 23 In an interview with X-Press Magazine , bassist Mikey Way talked about the Danger Days... recording experience, reaffirms that they will "never add another member to the band again" (for those still wondering if their touring drummers will become permanent) and that they do, indeed, plan "to get together and begin the process of putting together a follow-up album....sooner rather than later!" --- November 24 In an interview by Kill Your Stereo , guitarist Frank Iero hinted that MCR's upcoming Big Day Out pe...

"Look alive, Sunshine:" possible My Chemical Romance album hint from Gerard Way

Image
Last night, Gerard Way returned to Twitter to celebration in the form of MCR fans from all over the world coming together to crash the TweetPhoto page that displayed the accompanying image (left) for Way's tweet that read simply, "Look alive, sunshine..." Way, unsurprisingly, dropped off the cryptic picture with no further explanation. Fan theories are circulating about what the picture could mean in relation to MCR's upcoming album. This morning, Matt Galle, My Chemical Romance's long-time booking agent , brought further suspicion to the unexplained picture by retweeting it. This is not the first time MCR fans have gotten teasers from the band in the form of close-up shots of words. In June, 2009, Mikey Way posted "practice cam" shots of what appeared to be working titles for songs written on whiteboard. XoXo c.

My Chemical Romance Frontman Reveals Album Completion at Comic-Con

Image
My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way participated in a Dark Horse panel discussion today at San Diego Comic-Con. Sporting a new hairstyle that sent fans into a shocked frenzy, the singer revealed during panel that "there would be no new comics from him this year, but his band just finished its new album and he would return to comics immediately after," according to a live report from ComicBookResources.Com . Way added that the finished product was a "second attempt" at the album, which is not surprising; as, the band announced in March that they had created enough material for two-and-a-half albums . Last year, Way said that his newest comic project "The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys" would be out in 2010. It seems the album has made plans change since then. Just two weeks ago, fans were given a hint in the form of a picture that the album had been completed from MCR lead guitarist Ray Toro. XoXo c. If I find more information, it will be posted ...

Gerard Way appears on May 2010 cover of 'Nylon Guys'

Image
Siren Studios has posted preview images of those that will run in the May issue of Nylon Guys Magazine . Be sure to check out the issue for a full interview! I'll post more information here as soon as I have it! ::EDIT Both Nylon and Nylon Guys have posted a few quotes from the article as well as a slideshow of more images. In the full article, Way describes elements of the upcoming album's artwork, explaining that the quality of photography is grainy, but mixed with it are clean typefaces. According to Way, the band has been able to put much more focus on the album artwork this time. According to Nylon , "Way plans to work on the cover art for his album." Way describes a new song titled "Detonator Baby" in which he claims there is a line about spitting on a celebrity, which Way claims he would love to do. The article is really dense with fact and paraphrasing and few quotes. It's an interesting take on a snapshot of MCR history that we have yet to se...

Gerard Way appears the cover of SPIN Magazine

Image
Spin cover scans have surfaced recently that display Gerard Way as the magazine's centerpiece. Spin 's Web site has yet to post details about the 3-cover special edition of the magazine, but my guess is that it is next month's issue. It appears that, in the issue, various musicians will be interviewing "their idols," Gerard's being Iggy Pop. I will post more details as they come. ::EDIT:: The issue is on newsstands now. In the article, Way reiterates that My Chemical Romance's upcoming release will be very anti-celebrity and describes it as "digital poison" with "More sex. More danger. More explosions. Right now." ::ADDITIONAL EDIT:: SPIN has posted the full article online as well as video interview with Gerard about his experience with the magazine. XoXo c.

On Elitism...

"If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen-year-old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about.” - Gerard Way That is all. XoXo c.
