Unabridged Live Review: My Chemical Romance @ The Honda Civic Tour / September 13, 2011 / Cuyahoga Falls, OH

"Now, this could be the last of all the rides we take. So, hold on tight and don't look back." My last show of the Honda Civic Tour. The finality of that weighed on me as I drove the 5 hours to the Cleveland area. From recent interviews, I had suspected it could be a while before we get to see MCR live again; so, I was armed to savor every moment my favorite band offered me at Blossom Music Center on September 13. My friend and I arrived at about the same time MCR's bus pulled in, and we were able to hear a few slices of their soundcheck from the outside gates as we waited to go in. While waiting, we met the girl who was doing the tour report for Buzznet, and she snapped a picture of yours truly and other dressed-up MCR fans for the review (far left). Once inside, my friend and I found our seat. After Matt & Kim, we obnoxiously stood up and started to do stretches, caring very little how crazy we may have looked to those around us. Fortunately, "thos...

Unabridged Live Review: My Chemical Romance @ The Honda Civic Tour / September 10, 2011 / Noblesville, IN

I've learned every dance move my body is capable of from My Chemical Romance. That was the thought I had on September 10 in Noblesville, Indiana as I found myself strangely dancing (only when not jumping or thrashing) along naturally to MCR. And if you know me at all, you will understand that I do not dance . However, a lot lead up to that dance revelation... In my previous Honda Civic Tour review , I had mentioned my GPS's affinity for backroads and strange routes. As it turns out, no matter what settings I program into the thing, it still wants to take me through horrifying, surely-murderer-filled small towns in the middle of nowhere. Other than being guided away from the beaten path, my bad luck from the last show seemed to have scampered elsewhere. My best friend and I arrived at the Verizon Wireless Music Center one state away from home around 5 p.m., on schedule despite all of our strange detours, to retrieve our tickets. As we walked to the box office, I saw m...

Classic MCR Live Reviews: The Map

View My Chemical Romance Shows! in a larger map Here's a map to display my few years of MCR adventures. It's a little wonky; as, it is my first ever attempt at making a Google map, but I thought it was a kind of fun way to navigate the reviews . Again, I hope you all enjoyed the "Classic MCR Reviews" series, and I hope to see you at a show some day! XoXo c.

Classic MCR Live Review: 2008 Theatre Tour | 5-4-08 | Columbus, OH

Final installment of my "Classic MCR Live Reviews" series ! It has been a long journey since the start of this little project of mine, and it is now coming to a close with the final MCR show I saw before their hiatus. With this, I am hoping to be able to share many more experiences with you all here, and am hoping that you all will be able to share right back. Heck, maybe I'll see you at a show someday and we can share our experiences in person! My Chemical Romance with Billy Talent and Drive By @ Lifestyle Pavilion, May 4, 2008. NOTE: This was originally posted a the time of the show and has received little editing --- You know what makes for very little sleep? Going to an MCR show the night/morning after your concert companion's prom. Fun times, indeed. The day of May 3rd, while most of my friends were getting dressed up and prissy for prom, I was preparing all my usual MCR show needs, you know: Gatorade for in-line hydration, sunscreen, saltines to help calm my st...

Classic MCR Live Review: 2008 Theatre Tour | 4-18-08 | Chicago, IL

Part 13 of 14 in my My Chemical Romance live reviews series. The second of the two Chicago dates I went to on My Chemical Romance's 2008 tour with Billy Talent, Drive By and (for Chicago exclusively) David Costa. This review was written at the time of the show and has received only light editing. --- So, let's go back to the middle of the night that started it all, shall we? To catch you up, I left you, Oh my Reader- at the end of the first My Chemical Romance show in Chicago on April 17th. From there, our story continues... Stumbling out of a venue after a show is always a fun experience: your clothes seem to fit a little more loosely, your body tends to be covered with more moisture than you ever thought it could hold, your legs are slightly dead, and you may or may not be throbbing from bruises and other bumps your body has collected through the course of the night. Oh, trust me – the night of April 17th was all of those things for my friends and me as we stumbled down the ...

Classic MCR Live Review: 2008 Theatre Tour | 4-17-08 | Chicago, IL

The 12th installment of my 14-part MCR concert reviews series. My Chemical Romance, Billy Talent, Drive By and David Costa at the Congress Theater in Chicago. This review was written at the time of the show and has received only light editing. --- It is April 16th, 2008, and I'm at school staring at the clock all day, just waiting for the moment the final bell will ring so that I can hurry home with Emily, meet Joey and we can head off to the Windy City... So much terrible luck has slapped me in the face just before the trip that I can hardly believe we were actually going, and I know at this point that MCR shows are the best therapy... We headed out that day, drove through the vast savanna that is Indiana and finally found civilization in the Chicago skyline at night. Somewhere in the midst of our drive, the clock had turned back; so, we were a bit more tired than the early world around us when we arrived at the City Suites Hotel and got settled in. First of all, let me tell you ...

Classic MCR Live Review: Projekt Revolution | August 13, 2007 | Raleigh, NC

Image
Note: This was originally posted near the time of the show, and I have edited it only slightly. Much of the post alludes to the previous Projekt Revolution show I had gone to. I apologize for this post's briefness, but -- to make up for that -- I have added a video of Gerard going off on his pre-"You Know What they do to Guys like us in Prison" tangent!! August 13th, 2007- Projekt Revolution: Raleigh, NC. Because of my mother's wanting to mess around all day, Emily and I arrived at Projekt Revolution at about 3:30 p.m., just before the main-stage opened. I got posters from The Street Network's booth and hung them up all over the place and bought merch, then we decided to go find our seats (Yes, the horror, Cassie didn't have floor!). We had been expecting to have to go up a ton of stairs toward the back of the amphitheater, but that was not the case. We were directed DOWN stairs and into the equivalent of a pit with seats. A total waist of pit-space, I say, ...

Classic Live Review: Projekt Revolution 2007 | August 11, 2007 | Tampa, Florida

I was supposed to see another show on the Black Parade/ My Chemical Romance tour from my previous post, but it happened to be the Columbus show that ended up postponed for three days and eventually canceled after bands and crew-members on the tour got food-poisoning at a previous show. Note: This review was written and originally posted near the time of the show. It has received only minor editing. --- "Mama, we’re all gunna JUMP!" After a 20-hour drive to Tampa and a couple days of doing things that amused my mother, my friend and I made ourselves at home in our new hotel, which was directly across from the Florida State Fairgrounds where the concert was to be held the next day. August 11th, 2007- Projekt Revolution: Tampa, FL The Wait We got to the venue at about 6:30 a.m. after circling the perimeter of the fairgrounds to be positive that there was no other line. See, we had to do this, because the gate that let cars in had yet to open and there were about 6 people in lin...

Classic MCR Live Review: The Black Parade & My Chemical Romance Tour | April 24, 2007 | Atlanta, Georgia

After that last show I went to in 2005 , I hit an MCR dry-spell. Through the beginning of 2006, they were recording The Black Parade , which meant there were no shows for a while. A glimpse into MCR history: 2006 & the "WTF is The Black Parade?!" craze Everything was relatively quiet in the MCR world until circa June 2006 when Hot Topic started distributing the now legendarily mysterious "We are the black parade" shirts that none of us understood at the time but still faithfully bought. Also in June, MCR announced two festival shows in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 2 and 3 with Taking Back Sunday, Hot Like [A] Robot, Say Anything & The Honorary Title that I thought I was going to be able to attend at the time. In July, mysterious photos surfaced with strange titles that included "TBP" and "character" in them of Gerard with bright white hair. Oh, and Mikey's glasses vanished forever... In August, things really started to heat up...
