Here's an outline of what's been going on in the My Chemical Romance world since my previous "MCR digest" post on September 23. Note: I'm going to try to start making these posts a bit closer together. Say, every 5 days? ---   September 28 GERARD WAY performed with GRANT MORRISON and JAMES DEWEES on the opening night of Morrisoncon in Las Vegas, then spoke on a music panel the next day. From fan accounts, I gather that the 'con was very intimate, Gerard was extremely friendly and it was an all-around awesome time. Check out videos below of the performance and part of Gerard's panel. In a new interview with Alternative Press , guitarist FRANK IERO revealed that MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE 's still-in-progress 5th album is turning out "fucking elaborate " and says, "There’s a bit of bleakness to it..." He also makes it clear that the album "isn’t going to sound anything like" his recent contribution to the Frankenweenie: Unleashed! soundtrack; though, that song was the first piece of music recorded in the band's new studio ! UPDATE: September 14, 2012 @ 12:00 p.m. EST   The info in my original post (below) was posted a BIT early; so, I had removed it...until now. My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has posted an official blog entry explaining the band's upcoming Conventional Weapons project and the story behind the band's Pre- Danger Days "scrapped" album .  The project will include a series of releases, I'm assuming at least in part on 7" vinyl by the store listing from yesterday (below), of never-before-heard MCR songs from the band's 2008-2009 "scrapped album." There will be 5 releases, starting in October, each with 2 never-before-heard songs. This morning @ligxo pointed out to me that a song by Frank Iero will be featured on the upcoming soundtrack for Frankenweenie Unleashed! . The song, "This Song Is A Curse," is among the soundtrack's 2 just-revealed bonus tracks. The soundtrack is set for release September 25. XoXo c.

Between my digging up arrest reports and generally writing news for Alternative Press today, I noticed quite a few My Chemical Romance happenings. Because of MCRupdate's the recent announcement that she would no longer be updating, I figured I would try to post a little more more here to attempt to make up for the loss. Of course, I'll never be able to keep up at the magnitude she did, but little things that I would normally just tweet then move on, I'll try to compile into an occasional digest so they'll be less likely to be missed. August 8, 2012 Bullet Cable posted a second video interview from MCR guitar tech "Punk Rock Dave" talking about equipment. The awesome thing about this video: It was shot inside what Bullet Cable calls "MCR's secret studio," supposedly that studio the band mentioned they were building in Los Angeles many months ago. In an interview with The Aquarian Weekly, My Chemical Romance 's Frank Iero remained fairly quiet about what the band are doing in the studio right now and expressed the band's "pleasure" to "help out" when they got the call to fill in for Blink-182 at Bamboozle. But don't get excited at the prospect of other one-off shows while MCR is still in studio just yet. Iero said, "We are in writing-mode right now and weren’t going to consider playing any shows, actually" until they were presented with the Bamboozle situation. According to Iero, writing is going well and the band are "maybe a month away from the record button lighting up," however, he gave a "no fucking way" when asked if he could give a timeframe for the album's eventual release. My Chemical Romance will perform at Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey this Saturday, May 19. XoXo c.

UPDATE: April 9, 2012 @ 8:43 p.m. On April 6, 2012, Frank Iero announced the birth of his son via Twitter. The guitarist had begun a public 13-day countdown (details below), which culminated in the surprising announcement of his third child's (he also has twin daughters) birth. My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero, alongside Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold, is set to appear on Fuse's Hoppus On Music next Thursday at midnight (11 p.m. Central, so technically 12 a.m. Friday EST.) According to the photo description on the Hoppus On Music Facebook where it was announced, the two will be exploring the " Orange Country [sic] music scene." On March 6, Zacky Vengeance originally tweeted a picture with Frank, presumably from the day of the shoot, captioned "Up to no good..," Because the time the episode is set to air aligns, some fans are speculating that it is what Frank's countdown concerns; though, there is nothing to prove or disprove that theory. My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has posted a photo with the caption, "Things is happenink!" that looks suspiciously like it could be (though has not been confirmed to be) My Chemical Romance's working on their latest album. The photo shows a computer and the top portion of a whiteboard with visible text: "PIANO BREAK" and what look like note names. Last week, MCR guitarist Ray Toro also posted photographs that look like they could be glimpses of the band in-studio. Those who were around during the creation of what became MCR's pre- Danger Days... scrapped album may recall that the band used whiteboards then to sneakily give away potential song titles. XoXo c.

Taking Back Sunday's cover of Kanye West's "Can't Tell me Nothing" I originally heard Taking Back Sunday 's rendition of Kanye 's "Can't Tell me Nothing" through a Warner Brothers Records Summer Sessions stream . Various sources such as Kerrang! , Buzznet, and BBC News have released articles today where a clearly excited Gerard Way speaks of the band's getting together this week to begin recording for the next album. From the sound of things, "Desolation Row" got them psyched to get back into the usual MCR groove of things. Wait, did I say usual? According to the band members, they are so stoked that this recording process could very well end up going more quickly than I can blog it. Ray Toro, Bob Bryar, and Gerard Way- alternating the playing of guitar, bass, and drum as they did so- already began writing at least three rough songs. The very un-MCR-like quick recording plus the fact that they are going for a more rough sound on this album can mean nothing but high-energy and excitement for the band, on the album, and among fans. Most of you who have any sort of attraction to my blog, will already know that Leathermouth is My Chemical Romance rhythm guitarist, Frank Iero's, side project.There's enough back-story to the release of this CD that I feel I need to digress in time to best describe it. A long-ass time ago, we My Chem fans started getting wind of Leathermouth: this band shrouded in mystery, always turning their backs in photographs or wearing masks. What were these guys hiding from the public? We soon found that it was a secret weapon in a 5'4" package about to be unleashed upon the world-- Frank Iero needed somewhere to let shit out, and thus Leathermouth lived. A text message arrived to me late last night: --- Message From Twitter: gerardway: Epic blog! Heading to a recording studio... --- Now this could mean a couple things: Gerard is messing with the fans (see his Tweet about shaving his head and the chaos that surrounded it for example) or he, as is by now historically predicted of him, has blabbed something he was not supposed to blab. My money is going on the latter. My Chemical Romance , after the Madison Square Garden stop of their 2008 US tour in May, went into hiatus mode, not giving any definite date for the end of their off-road hibernation. I realized something as I went to bed last night at 6:30 pm- I'm not very productive as of late. It was like a slap in the face this morning when I looked at the clock and it said 11:30 am. Yesterday, the rubbing-in started as I watched a great VH1 feature from a couple years ago about media and the young, out-of-control Hollywood scene. My first response to it was, "Wow. I want to be a member of the paparazzi," then -more logical- "I want to work for TMZ," then I lost the stars in my eyes and realized who I was, thinking, "That's just creepy," and went on with my half-attentive watching of the show until The Queen of All Media cropped up his pretty, little head. Four years have passed since "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" My Chemical Romance's first major label CD was released on Warner-Reprise records. It is noted for being the album that really brought My Chem to the forefront of music with their first major-label-released single, "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" followed by the widely popular "Helena" and "The Ghost of You". To celebrate the album's great success, the band is re-releasing it on special-edition red vinyl and adding a handwritten lyric sheet, artwork that did not make it to the CD, and even a fancy-pants gun stencil! I, for one, am majorly stoked on this release, because this is the CD that I grew up with, in a way. 2004 and 2005 were really huge years in my musical life, and this CD was there for me during those years, introducing me to a new kind of culture and music, and the band that ultimately changed my life. I've come to find since writing that paper that there was never one experience that changed my life but several that saved my life: several nights of falling into the comfort of notes of songs, immersing myself in lyrics, and surrounding myself with the love that resonated through my empty room from my speakers.
