My Chemical Romance digest: August 22-September 2

Image
Here's an outline of what's been going on in the My Chemical Romance world since my previous "MCR digest" post on August 21. With more going on now, I will try to make these posts a bit closer together in the future! ---- August 27 My Chemical Romance's "SING" appears on VH1 "Pop-Up Videos"   August 28 My Chemical Romance's official website underwent a dramatic re-skin, including the addition of a new logo (pictured left). Fans are to be advised that it is just a routine website re-skin that does not necessarily reflect new material. -- UPDATE: (No) My Chemical Romance song to be featured on 'The Man With The Iron Fists' Soundtrack The tracklisting was revealed for The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack, of which MCR was said to be a part. There is no sign of them on the soundtrack. However, that does not mean their music may not be a part of the film. They could appear in the larger score; they're just ...

Photograph of Gerard and Mikey Way to be featured in traveling art show to raise Parkinson's Disease funds and awareness

Image
When photographer Allan Amato posted , "Just wrapped a lovely shoot experience with My Chemical Romance in old man pajamas..." MCR fans were--to say the least--intrigued. It has now been revealed that said shoot was for the benefit of the organization Illuminate Parkinsons , which aims to raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease and funds for charities. The photograph (above) of Gerard Way and Mikey Way is one of many by Amato that will be featured in a traveling Illuminate Parkinsons gallery show to raise awareness for Young Onset Parkinsons. Prints of the photo will also be sold to benefit the cause. Check out Illuminate Parkinson's Kickstarter page to contribute! XoXo c. Below are two other photographs of Gerard and Mikey by Allan Amato:

My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way talks Killjoys comic, The Mad Gear & Missile Kid and potential 'Life On The Murder Scene' follow-up

Image
"I don't think we're going to be making any more videos, but something is definitely on the horizon," My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way revealed in a recent interview by Coup De Main magazine . For fans who had hoped for "SING" 's massive cliffhanger to be resolved, that may be disappointing. However, Way goes on to say that "the Killjoys story is far from over," citing that the Killjoys comic by Shaun Simon and MCR vocalist Gerard Way may contain hints at what happened to Kobra Kid and co. and that, "it should be relatively soon that you should hear something [new] about the comic." Though, who knows what "relatively soon" means in MCR time. Related to the Danger Days world , when asked if the band has plans to release a full-length The Mad Gear and Missile Kid album, Way said: "Oh absolutely! That's something we talk about a lot, we just have to kinda find time. There's more songs we have th...

My Chemical Romance News While I was Away

Image
As some of you know, I have been stuck in an abysmal state of Internet-less-ness since late November. As such, I have not been able to update as frequently as I would like. Those of you who follow me (@PoisonAndFire) on Twitter probably already saw these as they came out (thank goodness for my mobile Internet access, even if limited!), but here is a re-cap of what has happened in the MCR news realm while I have been on winter break. November 23 In an interview with X-Press Magazine , bassist Mikey Way talked about the Danger Days... recording experience, reaffirms that they will "never add another member to the band again" (for those still wondering if their touring drummers will become permanent) and that they do, indeed, plan "to get together and begin the process of putting together a follow-up album....sooner rather than later!" --- November 24 In an interview by Kill Your Stereo , guitarist Frank Iero hinted that MCR's upcoming Big Day Out pe...

Mikey Way and Mat Devine give Fans Advice

Image
My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way was asked to join Mat Devine of Kill Hannah for his weekly advice blog. The pair answered serious questions submitted by fans about life issues that many are facing. The topics addressed range from bullying, stage fright, self-harm and therapy to "Philemaphobia" and coffee-addiction. I think it's beautiful and rare to see something like this. More artists should be using their influence to listen to and help kids in this way. People can smell shit a mile away - Mikey Way... None to be smelt in Mat Devine's advice blog. Read it here XoXo c.

MCR & Reading and Leeds?

My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way has made another cryptic twitter post: "Reading/Leeds" Does this mean I should start saving for tickets to the UK? One can only hope this confusion is cleared soon so that fans such as I can stop spazzing. XoXo c. EDIT:: The official Reading and Leeds twitter has posted that My Chem's playing is a mere rumor. Everyone can breathe again.

Concert Survival Tips [Part II]

Concert Survival Tips Part II Warped Tour Survival There are two very specific forms of surviving in the concert world. There’s basic show survival, which is- well- basic; then, there is Warped Tour . Festival shows such as Warped are a breed all their own: a breed that can grab you by the throat, over-exhaust your sweat glands, and throw you –before you have time to think- into the land of “Oh-shit-I’m-passing-out-in-front-of-my-favorite-band!". I was in thrust into that land at my first Warped Tour. (Flashback Time…) Not only was 2005’s my first Warped, but also my first time being in a pit. I waited the whole time in front of the main stage for My Chemical Romance to come on, and- by the time they did- I was beaten and battered (second row sucks, but that’s a story for another survival lesson) to the point of exhaustion. I, however, could did not let this damper my mood; as, I was seeing my favorite band for the third time, and for the first time, I was actually seeing them u...

MCR Back in Studio This Week!!

Image
Various sources such as Kerrang! , Buzznet, and BBC News have released articles today where a clearly excited Gerard Way speaks of the band's getting together this week to begin recording for the next album. From the sound of things, "Desolation Row" got them psyched to get back into the usual MCR groove of things. Wait, did I say usual? According to the band members, they are so stoked that this recording process could very well end up going more quickly than I can blog it. Ray Toro, Bob Bryar, and Gerard Way- alternating the playing of guitar, bass, and drum as they did so- already began writing at least three rough songs. The very un-MCR-like quick recording plus the fact that they are going for a more rough sound on this album can mean nothing but high-energy and excitement for the band, on the album, and among fans. Frank Iero claimed that from about the second week of being on break, he has wanted to return to writing with his bandmates. The MCR present is looking ...

Warped Wednesday

Image
So, I'm sitting here, miserable because the third issue of Dallas came out today and, due to Athens's SUCKING, it is not in my hands. I think to myself, "I have an entire icy day free of classes and am about to cry. What could cheer me up?" Duh. Warped Tour. I had planned on writing my Warped Tour blog earlier than this, pushed it away from my focuses, then was reminded by my blog-follower, Sarah, who posted a blog about a Warped Tour documentary. ----- There's nothing in the world quite like Warped tour, where you are likely to run into any variation of being available all while burning in the sun and watching, on your choice of several stages, the most diverse concert line-up out there. Warped tour is less of a show than an experience, a hot and sticky experience that takes place on the burning asphalt of a parking lot in the dead of summer. The mere smell of Warped Tour is unlike anything else in the world. There's no other way to describe it than the s...

My Chemical Romance Ending Hiatus?

Image
A text message arrived to me late last night: --- Message From Twitter: gerardway: Epic blog! Heading to a recording studio... --- Now this could mean a couple things: Gerard is messing with the fans (see his Tweet about shaving his head and the chaos that surrounded it for example) or he, as is by now historically predicted of him, has blabbed something he was not supposed to blab. My money is going on the latter. My Chemical Romance , after the Madison Square Garden stop of their 2008 US tour in May, went into hiatus mode, not giving any definite date for the end of their off-road hibernation. They just needed time to "live," as they said, which is more than understandable for a band that had spent nearly 4 years straight on the road. But, of course, the guys didn't stay away from their passions. Frank Iero has been diligently working toward the release of his side-project, Leathermouth's, coming debut "XO" (January 27th, Epitaph Records) and touring with...

My Chemical Romance's "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" on VINYL!

Image
Four years have passed since "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" My Chemical Romance's first major label CD was released on Warner-Reprise records. It is noted for being the album that really brought My Chem to the forefront of music with their first major-label-released single, "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" followed by the widely popular "Helena" and "The Ghost of You". To celebrate the album's great success, the band is re-releasing it on special-edition red vinyl and adding a handwritten lyric sheet, artwork that did not make it to the CD, and even a fancy-pants gun stencil! I, for one, am majorly stoked on this release, because this is the CD that I grew up with, in a way. 2004 and 2005 were really huge years in my musical life, and this CD was there for me during those years, introducing me to a new kind of culture and music, and the band that ultimately changed my life. "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" has been there for me...

Music Saves Lives (The Point of it All)

"At their very beginnings, some lives are destined to be saved, or else they will be cut tragically short." This was the first line of a paper I wrote last year about a meaningful experience in my life. I've come to find since writing that paper that there was never one experience that changed my life but several that saved my life: several nights of falling into the comfort of notes of songs, immersing myself in lyrics, and surrounding myself with the love that resonated through my empty room from my speakers. If you never read another of my posts, please take the time to read this one. I have told this story and will tell it again and again through my career. I want to be a writer, because I want to help people. I want to make people feel that they belong, that someone out there cares about them, and that they can make it through whatever this world may shoot at them alive-- The world can fire, but one can evade the shots. I feel as if it is my duty to c...
